CSULA Magazine Article
I had the fortune to be interviewed by CSULA for their magazine, in this article. I received my MA from CSULA in ’07. Attending the school was a big first step in getting me toward my goal of being published. I was pregnant with my second kid, feeling a bit “stuck” creatively and needing something to help move me forward. I joined their writing program, which unfortunately is no longer being offered. That is terribly sad to me because the program served people like me–working adults, parents, single moms, people seeking jobs in higher education, etc… I loved my time there.
A fun side note is that my advisor was also the advisor of my literary agent, Kerry Sparks. We also graduated from CSULA the same year, but didn’t meet until she became my agent years ago and we were on opposite sides of the coast. And we share the same first name, spelled differently, but the same. Serendipity for sure!
The writer of the article and a photographer came to “my office” Swork–a wonderful local coffee shop where you can find me most mornings. Most of the time I’m incognito, typing away with a pair of lime green ear buds. I felt a little funny at the attention, and the barristas teased me, but such is the life of a writer… haha. (Yeah, right.)
I love this photo they used because it’s like I’m giving a Swork and Mac commercial. Gotta have both to write. And it’s a very “writerly” pose.
Any other writers in the Eagle Rock area, I’d love to meet and write together some time!
